  • Bring: a raincoat, plastic sandals and a waterproof bag for electronics.

  • Flood days: riverside streets (Bach Dang, Nguyen Thai Hoc) may flood. Do not wade through water or ride through flooded roads; message Palmera for directions.

  • Cham Islands are closed from mid-October to the end of February. Do not swim when the red flag is up.

Rainy day at the villa?

  • A bath, Netflix & Chill.

  • Order food delivery.

  • Read a book on the balcony.

Where is Palmera?

Rainy-season insects

Rove beetle (about 1 cm long, orange and black)

  • Do not crush or rub it: its body fluid causes skin burns.

  • Blow gently or let it crawl onto a piece of paper, then take it outside.

  • If touched: wash right away with soap and clean water, do not scratch.

  • Shake out your bedding before sleeping.

Flying termites, moths

  • Harmless; they fly around lights after evening rain, then lose their wings.

  • Close the balcony door, draw the curtains and dim lights near windows.

Mosquitoes

  • Use repellent when going out in the evening, especially near rivers and rice fields.

Paid attractions

  • Old Town and Hoai River walk: a ticket is only needed to enter the heritage sites. Best at 6:00–7:30 AM and after 6:30 PM.
